Things to Do
Flora MacDonalds Monument A few miles south of along the shore is the spot where Bonnie Prince Charlie came "over the sea to Skye" disguised as the maidservant of Flora MacDonald. There are a great many places associated with these two in this part of Skye, including Flora MacDonald's grave and monument shown on the left. This is less than a mile from two of our cottages, and next door to it is the Skye Museum of Island Life, a collection of seven thatched cottages showing life on the island in days gone by.
A couple of miles north of us are the ruins of Duntulm Castle (shown right), a former MacDonald stronghold in a dramatic clifftop setting, from which you can look out over Tulm Island with its teeming bird life. The area abounds in other antiquities including duns, brochs, chambered cairns and standing stones. Many of these are off the beaten track and seldom visited, which contributes to the spellbinding atmosphere for those who make the effort to find them. Also close at hand is Whitewave, a family-friendly activity centre where you can take part in canoeing, windsurfing, archery and guided walks.
