Kilmuir, Cille Mhoire in Gaelic, renouned as being 'the granary of Skye' is still largely a Gaelic speaking community and offers a real experience of island life. It offers plenty of scope for walking, fishing, cycling and bird-watching. It is home to Skye's only outdoor centre Whitewave Outdoor Centre, which offers sea kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, hillwalking, climbing and archery. There is also the Skye Museum of Island Life.
